Grantown Club Weekend (organised by Keith) 27/28/29 March 09
Keith has made a provisional booking for Ardenbeg hostel in Grantown on Spey for the weekend 27/28/29 March 09. Details of the hostel can be found at the following web site;
http://www.ardenbeg.co.uk/index.php
There is one issue which you need to be aware of which is not clear from the web site. The hostel was originally designed like an alpine hut hence a few of the bunks are laid out as sleeping platforms and not as individual bunks. For those of you who have not stayed in an alpine hut this means there are some double and some triple bunks. Each person has their own mattress but they are effectively side by side. If you are not comfortable with this arrangement then it is possible to move some of the mattresses on to the floor (the hostels advice).
There are 24 beds, bookings on first come first served basis. The club will pay the deposit as normal and full payment on the weekend. Normal booking rules apply – if you book a place and cancel at the last minute then unless I can fill the place or manage to cancel with the hostel then full price will have to be paid. Please let Keith know asap if you wish to attend.

Bothy News
Members have been putting in a fair bit of work at the Bothy recently. Last year a new wood burning stove was fitted, and so far this year, the bothy has been painted inside and out. The front door has also been replaced and Ron is looking for a bit of plywood to line it with if anyone has some lying about unused.
Discount outdoor equipment and clothing
Club members can obtain a discount on outdoor and camping equipment at Base Camp 9-13 West Port, Arbroath. When making a purchase state you are a member of Angus CC. Adrian Hill, the proprietor will check your name against the present club membership list.
Attracting New/Younger Members
Just a reminder of what Tom our President said in his closing report:
“While the membership appears to be reasonably steady and healthy, without being insulting to anyone (myself included) the age profile of the membership raises questions. The Olympics might have raised the profile of cycling in general but hasn't increased our membership. Again any idea relating to club membership would be more than welcome.”
Therefore:-
We have to remember that the Club should be promoting cycling to all spheres from the complete novice to the experience rider. Cycling that includes gentle beginner's rides, short and easy rides, long distance challenges, informal time trials, off road rides, hostelling, expedition riding and the gentle art of touring. (Commuting for those who have a job?)
One or two suggestions have been wheeling out through the frame and inner tubes of the club – with the likes of isn't there a “good photo opportunity when we get out new club jerseys” and is this not the “ must get fit time of year” - Both good for advertising the benefits of the club and membership.
Perhaps some of the following may be attempted but it needs members to become active and assist:
1) A feature in the local press with a photograph (new jerseys)of the talent and club benefits
2) Posters in the Leisure Centre, Libraries and Bike Shops inviting new members
3) Updating the Website
4) Send out invites to other clubs to participate in our Audax / DATC events
5) Wednesday night rides (not to the Pub) for younger members
6) More Suggestions required
Audax Events 2009
At the AGM in oct 2008 it was agreed any Audax events organised under the Angus CC name would be subject to the following club rules:
(1) An account of Income & Expenditure to be submitted to the Treasurer and subject to annual audit.
(2) Surpluses from events to be given over to the treasurer.
(3) Losses incurred by the Organiser will be refunded by Angus CC
Angus CC members are organising the following Audax/DATC events this coming year.
