Club Weekend at Grantown on Spey
19 Members of Angus Cycling Club met up at a hostel in Grantown on Spey the last Friday in March to take part in a weekend of cycling organised by Keith Buckingham.. Some who had cycled all or part of the way there had a rather wet and windy journey with the weather deteriorating as the day went on. However a fine meal and cheery company soon raised their spirits and prepared them for the following day. The temperatures dropped overnight and in the morning they were greeted by falling snow.
This eased off after 9am and a group of 9 cyclists decided to attempt the planned run with others choosing either a shorter route or to do a bit of walking instead. Taking the back roads out of Grantown and along Speyside, the roads were slushy but passable, but the biting wind made for a cold start as they worked their way along the undulating road through Tomvaich and Straan Woods. Passing by Blackboat and on to Knockando they then turned north, uphill and directly in to the icy wind. What followed was a lengthy climb up the side of the Cairn of Ballindean and into the woods where at times they got some shelter. At last over the top the fast descent was welcome apart from the shower of fine hail stones that stung their faces as they sped down to Dallas where they at last got some respite from the elements as they turned east out of the wind and into the warm sunshine. Arriving at Forres they stopped a while to relax and enjoy lunch knowing that the icy blast would mainly be behind them from then on.
After the break there was a short dash along the busy main road before they could turn off along the quiet road towards Whitemire. The long ascent by Logiebuchany and Conicavel through Darnaway Forest was wind assisted and ended in a swift plunge down to and over the river Findhorn near Relugus. Another long climb up by Airdrie Mill and Furness took them on to open snow covered moorland where, in the bright sunshine, the strong tailwind blew them along through the spectacular winter scenery to eventually join the main road between Carrbridge and Grantown. From there it was just 6 or 7 miles along through Dalnain Bridge and back to the start. Again good food and a social evening followed with some making their way home on the Sunday after another successful club weekend while others set off for Cullen to take the long way home over a couple of days.

Forfar Audax/CTC Weekend
The weekend of the 25th and 26th of April saw cyclists coming from near and far to take part in 4 Audax/CTC events organised by Ron Harrow and Dave Husband.
The Saturday programme was the more popular, drawing around 50 entries to the “Pitlochry” 150k and the “Scone the Flat Way” 100k events. While attracting riders from as far away as Dufftown and Glasgow the events were also well represented by local members of Angus CC and Angus Bike Chain.
The Sunday events were also popular with the “Glenisla” 100k and ”Lintrathen Loop” 50k supported by 26 cyclists.
